After loonies, toonies and pennies that look like American ones, Canada introduced a new set of coins featuring popular characters and scenes from the original Star Trek series. One of them is a delta coin shaped like Starfleet insignia. They are being released as legal tender by the Canadian Mint to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek.

Since Star Trek is very popular and the coin is something that fans would love to collect, they cost much more than its face value or its real worth. For example a 20-dollar Enterprise coin costs 100 Canadian dollars. The pure gold Starfleet coin which is already out of stock was worth $200 but was being sold for about $1,300.

The project has turned out to be a grand success and has earned a lot of profit.
